GREATER AKRON — The St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP), in the Diocese of Cleveland, is celebrating 150 years of service to Northeast Ohioans.
Tracing its roots to Civil War times, the organization now boasts 1,000 volunteers from 63 Catholic parishes in eight counties, said Executive Director John Litten. Many of those volunteers are from the Akron area and include the parishioners of St. Hilary in Fairlawn, St. Sebastian in West Akron, St. Victor in Richfield and Mother of Sorrows in Peninsula. . .
